2010 Visiting Ship - USS SQUALL (PC 7)

Derived from an old Nordic term meaning “sudden wind”, USS SQUALL (PC 7) is the seventh Cyclone Class Patrol Coastal Ship.  Her keel was laid down 17 February 1993 by Bollinger Machine, Lockport, Louisiana and launched 28 August 1993. She was commissioned by the United States Navy 4 July 1994.

 179 feet long, armed with two 25MM gun weapon systems, 50 cal and M240 machine guns, Patrol Coastal Ships are the most armed per square inch of steel of any U.S. vessel. The primary mission of these ships is coastal patrol and interdiction surveillance, an important aspect of littoral operations outlined in the Navy's strategy, "Forward...From the Sea."  These ships also are capable of providing full mission support for Navy SEALs and other special operations forces. Of the ten Cyclone Class Patrol Coastal ships employed by the United States Navy, five are forward deployed to the Arabian Gulf in support of Operations Iraqi Freedom and Enduring Freedom. The remaining five are assigned to Joint Expeditionary Base, Little Creek, Virginia, in support of anti-terrorism and training operations. PATROL COASTAL CREW BRAVO is currently embarked onboard USS SQUALL.

USS SQUALL (PC 7) Commanding Officer
LT LUEBBERT was born and raised in Henderson, Kentucky.

He enlisted in the Navy as an Opticalman in 1992. His first tour of duty was at the Shore Intermediate Maintenance Activity (SIMA) Long Beach, California. In May 1994 he reported aboard the USS DIXON (AS 37) in San Diego California and served until October 1995. Following The USS DIXON, LT Luebbert served at the TRIDENT Refit Facility in Kings Bay, Georgia. There he was selected for the Enlisted Commissioning Program in 1999 and reported to The University of Texas at
Austin where he graduated with a B.A. in Economics and received his commission in 2002.


His first commissioned tour of duty was aboard USS MCFAUL (DDG 74), where he served a 33 month tour as the Auxiliaries Officer, First Lieutenant and Assistant Operations Officer. USS MCFAUL deployed to the Fifth Fleet Area of Operations. In May 2008, LT Luebbert reported to USS OSCAR AUSTIN (DDG 79) and served a as the Chief Engineer taking her through an intensive Dry docking and completed Unit Level Training Cycle ultimately certifying USS OSCAR AUSTIN for her deployment with the HARRY S. TRUMAN Carrier Strike Group.

LT Luebbert’s tours ashore include Surface Warfare Officers School, The Naval Postgraduate School, in Monterey, CA, where he earned his Masters of Business Administration and Joint Professional Military Education, Phase I. In August 2009, LT Luebbert reported Commander, Patrol Coastal Squadron One where he worked on the N8 staff in support of ten ships and thirteen Crews.

LT Luebbert assumed command of PC CREW BRAVO and USS SQUALL on 21 May 2010.

LT Luebbert's awards include the Navy Commendation Medal; Navy Achievement Medal, four awards; and various unit and service awards.

LT Luebbert is married to the former Miss Jennifer Burch of Aurora, Colorado. They have two daughters, Darcy and Riley, and one son, Noah.
